This review is about the Shizen Spa at the Pantages - never been to the Cosmopolitan location. I am a Torontonian and keep going back there because it is conveniently located near my home. Every time I go, I keep hoping that this time will be a good experience. After dozens of visits, I can confirm that having a good experience there is an anomoly. From receiving rushed treatments to make up their lost time after seeing me 20mins late (despite the fact that I always arrive a half hour early). To arriving for booked appointments only to be told that it is my technician's day off or that he/she is ill (so why book the appts in the first place? Or, if they are ill, at least call before we get there!) Also, beware of their 'promo packages.' After you receive the service and go to pay - you will inevitably be told that their 'promo' is incorrectly worded and that, the charges would be not as advertised (keep in mind that you find these promos posted on their own company website.) These are a few of the examples of mine and my friends' experiences there - I only bothered to post the most commonly occurring experiences and am now looking for other spas in the area. At least when you go to a cheaper place, you go with a certain expectation of miscommunications and subpar service.
We had a wonderful time. Definitely worth the money. My only criticism is that the changing area needs to be more private. I would have preferred separate change rooms. Other than that - it was fantastic. Lunch was so tasty; our estheticians were skillful and friendsly; and the atmosphere was relaxing.
I experienced the most wonderful moment at the spa. I had an amazing massage and facial by Christine. She is awesome. Great pressure, very relaxing. Everybody is so friendly. I definitely would go back. The theme is very nice and eco friendly. I did not stay in the hotel but I recommend people to explore this spa for it's great customer service.
An enjoyable experience and the customer services was exceptional. Still one of my favourites spas.
The spa was immaculate, and the staff were incredibly warm! The treatments were great (mani/pedi), and I was made to feel welcome. The only fly in the ointment was when the manicurist snuck a look at her blackberry and checked messages (she seemed to think it was hidden, but I saw). It was less than professional.
Change room too small. Layout of men's and women's change room doesn't work. When someone opens the door, one is completely exposed to the hallway traffic while changing or coming out of the shower. Installing self closing doors wouldn't hurt. Storage also is a problem for used bathrobes in the change rooms and the spa in general. Fire exit was competely blocked with overspill storage. The refreshment "bar" in the jacuzzi area was under the stairs, so one has to duck. Massage was so-so. Being a frequent spa visitor, I will not be coming back to this particular spa.
I appreciated that I didn't receive a hard sell on the products used for my facial. It makes all the difference in that I rarely return to a spa where they've done a hard sell before.
we had booked a couples massage, all the photos and descriptions mentioned a couples bath ahead of time. We did not receive this. other than that all facilities were great
